 Hosea Collins

Hosea Dean Collins III was born November 4, 1933. Collins had two coaching stints at Oakman in his successful coaching career. He guided the Wildcats from 1961-67 and from 1982-89, and compiled a 92-59-3 record at the school.

Collins produced two undefeated seasons, two quarter-finals state playoff trips and multiple Wal-Win championships. Coach Collins carried his team to the third round of the playoffs in 1984.

His first head coaching position came at Palmetto High School in 1961 for a single season before he moved to Oakman.

After his first stint at Oakman, Collins jumped to Carbon Hill for five seasons and Fayette County High School for six years before returning to Oakman for the second time in 1982.

Coach Collins moved to Georgia in 1992 where he accepted the head coaching position at Towns County High School. In seven seasons at the helm, his teams finished with a record of 15-52.

His coaching record in Alabama is 159-112-4 in 27 years as a head coach. Combined with his seven years in Georgia his overall record stands at 174-164-4.

Oakman Stadium was named in his honor in 2007. He retired as the winningest coach in Oakman football history.

Coach Collins passed away November 16, 2007 in Nauvoo, Alabama.
